Newsletter September 2009

From The GM:

Summer is over according to the calendar. You would not know it by the weather as it is 82 degrees and sunny as I type this. Even though we may not see temperatures in the 80’s for the next 6 months, many people think that nothing beats golfing in the fall. All of the crowds have gone away, the temperatures are mild. We don’t aerate the greens until September 28th. They are in country club conditions, so don’t miss out.

We look forward to seeing you at the course!

Pro’s Corner by Steve Wozeniak

Today’s lesson will be on how we make the ball fade or draw correctly. This is extremely important to get the ball close to the pin in most situations. If you can only make the ball go one way you’re missing out on a lot of opportunities on the golf course.

First of all let me say that a fade is a perfectly straight shot that falls right at the end and a draw is a perfectly straight shot that falls left at the end of its flight. Every thing else is a hook or a slice. Let us start out by drawing the ball. Everyone agrees that in hitting a straight shot we set up like we are on railroad tracks. The body on the inner railroad track and the ball on the outer railroad track going directly to the target. To draw the ball we must have our body set up just right of the target with the club head pointing back to the target. This allows the club to naturally come inside the intended line of flight to just outside the intended line of flight and the ball will gently draw at the end. To fade it we must simply reverse this action. Set up your body just a little left of the intended line of flight and the club head back to the target. This makes the club come slightly outside the line of flight to a bit across the intended target. The ball will then gently fade. Make sure you fully release your body as you do in the full swing for both situations, remember just setting up your body a bit differently is how you are curving the ball every thing else must remain the same to pull the shot off. Ben Hogan always had a little draw as his normal shot because his set up was slightly closed. Jack Nicklaus always had a slight fade because he set up a bit open all the time but they both had the same fundamentally sound swings. Put this in your game and the greens will seem bigger your game will improve while having the satisfaction of being able to move the ball any way you want. If you would like to get all of the information you need to play great golf in a one hour lesson. Please call, email or come in any time for an appointment.

Happy Golfing,
